Nanette Marie James, passed away peacefully at her home in Douglas, Wyoming at the age of 71, surrounded by family members on June 7, 2026.
Nan was born in Douglas, Wyoming Tuesday, March 22, 1955 to Eugene Leonard and Carol Jean (Amsden) Morvee.
She graduated from Douglas High School in 1973 and then attended the National College of Business in Rapid City South Dakota, graduating in 1975.
She married Mike James at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas on August 3, 1975. It just happened to be on Mike’s birthday. He always reasoned that he would never forget their anniversary.
Nan started working for what was to become the Maxine Coe Clinic right out of college and worked in the medical billing industry for the next 48 years, retiring from Memorial Hospital of Converse County in 2022.
Two of Nan’s great loves were Job’s Daughters and Order of Eastern Star. Nan was an Honored Queen in Bethel #1 in Douglas in the fall of 1972 and continued to work with Job’s Daughters in various capacities on the local and state level until the time of her death. She joined Woodbine Chapter #18, Order of Eastern Star after her eighteenth birthday, being initiated with her father, Gene. She was a fifty-year member, holding pretty much every office that a female member could locally hold in that time and serving as a state officer a few times.
She was also active in the local sororities in her younger years and was very active in the Congregational United Church of Christ. She shared duties with others in the church as an organist. She loved to play the piano.
She also enjoyed watching her grandsons participate in baseball, soccer, wrestling, track, and football and granddaughter in barrel racing and pole bending. She put in more than a mile or two following them around the state and a little time in Texas also.
Nan is survived by her husband of 50 years Mike; daughters Erin (Dustin), children Kailey, Austin and Karson and Shelly (Roberto), children Gabriel, Bennan and Noah; brothers Bill (Janeen) and Hal; sister Janette (Brian); and several nieces and nephews.
Nan was preceded in death by her father, Gene, on September 12, 1997 and her mother, Carol, on May 24, 2018.
There will be no memorial service, but there will be a Celebratrion of Life on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at the Congregational United Church of Christ at 1:00 PM.
