Oliver Arnold "Tuff" Hanks, 86, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland with his wife by his side. He was born Tuesday, January 21, 1936.
Tuff grew up in the Laramie Peak mountains west of Wheatland. After completing high school in Wheatland, he went on to serve his country in the United States Army.
He married Faye Bromley on January 23, 1966. His working career took him from the family sawmill at Laramie Peak, to the logging industry at Fox Park, to supervisor at Greenhill Cemetery in Laramie, to Transportation Officer at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, to the coal mines in Hanna. He retired from the coal mines in 2001. Tuff was an avid deer and elk hunter and loved woodworking and spending time with family.
Survivors include his wife, Faye (Bromley) Hanks of Wheatland; sons, Torey (Julie)
Hanks of Wheatland and Tyler (Jennifer) Hanks of Green River; sister, Marilyn (Rodger) Garrett of Wheatland; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Harvey and Ruth (Hayes) Hanks; brothers, Norman Hanks, Neil Hanks, Kenneth "Short" Hanks; sister, Nancy (Hanks) Haggerty; son, Terry Hanks; and grandson, Brevin Hanks.
A Celebration of Life has been scheduled for 2:00 P.M on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the First State Bank Conference Center at 1405 16th Street in Wheatland.
