Phillip Ray "Flash" Ash passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 74 years of age, at his home in Chugwater, Wyoming. He was born on Tuesday, October 14, 1947, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Cloyd and Neva Pearl (Nester) Ash. He graduated from Chugwater High School in 1966. After growing up on the farm, he worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction and went on to work for Burlington Northern Railroad which he retired from after 35 years of service.
He married Carol A. (DeBoer) Ash on June 24, 2000, in Chugwater. He was the proud father of Cloyd (Jenny) Ash, Tami Ash, Dorrie Brown, Lacey Byers, and Grady Peoples. He has 11 grandchildren and one great grandson. Phil was blessed to have two bonus daughters, Amber Ash and Jena Deaver, and sons-in-law, Dale Meyer & Jake Deaver. He leaves behind his brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Jody Ash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloyd and Neva Ash; a daughter, Lacey Byers; brother, Jerry Ash; sister, Ruthann Vineyard; and nephew, Joseph Ash.
Phil was passionate about late-model stock car racing, starting with an old white Buick, #17, and eventually acquiring a Chevelle, #35. He won numerous races and multiple trophies. He loved fast cars and shared his passion with anyone who would listen.
Phil was committed to animal welfare and rescued many dogs that would have otherwise been euthanized. In his younger years, he enjoyed roping on his favorite horse, Lady.
He served on town council and was an EMT for nine years. He also enjoyed using his heavy equipment to do snow removal.
Funeral services will be held at Iowa Flats Cemetery in Chugwater at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 3, 2022, with Pastor Casey Schroder of the First Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at Iowa Flats Church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Attendees are encouraged to wear racing attire to commemorate Phil’s love of NASCAR. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Ash, Jake Deaver, Zach Ash, Dale Meyer, Will deRyk, and Dennis Keck.
Lunch will be served at the Community Center in Chugwater following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Chugwater Fire Protection, 101 Bowie Street, Chugwater, Wyoming 82210 would be appreciated by the family.
