Funeral Liturgy will be held for Phoebe Bernice (Caldwell) Underwood, 65, at 1:45 P.M. on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas, Wyoming with Father Lucas Kazimiro Simango as the Celebrant. The Vigil for the Deceased will be held at 6:00 P.M. Friday, March 12, 2021 at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery. A reception will be held at Northgate Liquors immediately following the interment service.
Phoebe Underwood died Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.
Phoebe was born Friday, December 16, 1955 in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of James Moon and Kathleen (Hogan) Caldwell. Phoebe along with her parents moved to Wyoming in 1956. She and her brother were raised in the jail house, beings her father was the sheriff of Converse County. Phoebe was educated in Douglas and graduated from the Douglas High School in 1974. Following her graduation, she moved to Ireland and returned to Douglas in 1978. She worked for Guarantee Federal Savings and Loans, which later became Provident Federal Savings and Loans in Douglas.
Phoebe was married to Rickey Lee “Rick” Underwood on October 6, 1990 at the Saint James Catholic Church in Douglas. They owned and operated Venture 101 and Northgate Liquors in Douglas.
She enjoyed playing softball, horse riding, dancing, music, having company over, and most of all she dearly loved her children.
She is survived by her children, Garth J. Underwood and Brogan K. Underwood both of Douglas; brother, Phillip Caldwell, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; step children, Shauna (Brian) Sweeney of Powell, Wyoming and Chad Underwood of Chadron, Nebraska; grandchildren, Haze Lee Underwood, Noah and Hawkin Sweeney, and Taylor, Peyton, and Braden Underwood; half-brother, Jim (Diane) Caldwell; and nieces, Gwen (Jeremy) and Kim (Jerry).
Phoebe was preceded in death by her father, James, on March 17, 1993; mother, Kathleen, on March 5, 2004; and husband, Rick, on October 26, 2011.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
A memorial to the Converse County Rural Fire Association, P.O. Box 766, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
