PHYLLIS JOHNSON Obituary

Phyllis Diane (Berg) Johnson, 71, of rural Glendo, Wyoming passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Banner Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming. Phyllis kept her health to herself, but it had been declining for several years.

Phyllis was born on Sunday, May 27, 1951 in Alliance, Nebraska, the daughter of Raymond Edward and Geraldine Jean (Moss) Berg. She was raised in Wheatland, Wyoming and graduated from Wheatland High School in 1969. She later attended Carl Johns Beauty College in Rapid City, South Dakota. Over the span of her life Phyllis worked as a soda jerk, beautician, bookkeeper for several businesses, and as a fee collector for the Glendo State Park. Phyllis especially enjoyed her time working for the Glendo State Park and missed the people she met there.

Phyllis married the love of her life, Herb Johnson, on July 14, 2001. They spent many happy years together on their ranch in Glendo. Wood carving was a hobby they enjoyed together, and Phyllis really liked painting the numerous carvings Herb created. Every year they would donate some of these carvings to the Marge Cares Foundation Auction, and they enjoyed taking them to the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas. Phyllis was fond of crosswords, and games. She particularly liked beating her brother, Tom, in cribbage. She was a die-hard Denver Broncos fan and really loved the Thermopolis hot springs.

Phyllis loved her family, and they were one of the main priorities in her life. After the passing of her parents, she became the “glue” that held the family together. Phyllis enjoyed hosting her family in her home for Christmas and giving huge baskets of home-baked goodies. She looked forward to decorating for Christmas and collected unusual ornaments. She loved deeply, cared with her whole heart, and always stepped in to lend a helping hand. She was a friend to all, and her fun loving, contagious laugh will be remembered by all who knew her.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Herb Johnson, of Glendo; four brothers, Terry (Nita) Berg of Lander, Wyoming, David Berg of Guernsey, Wyoming, Dan (Tammy) Berg of Wheatland, Wyoming, and Tom (Tracy) Berg of Cheyenne, Wyoming; numerous nieces and nephews; and her best friends Cheryl Roediger and Debbie Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond “Dutch” Berg on January 10, 2012 and Geraldine ‘Geri” Berg on September 26, 2018.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Horseshoe Cemetery near Glendo, followed by a gathering of friends at the Glendo Town Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Marge Cares Foundation, P.O. Box 98, Glendo, Wyoming 82213 or the Glendo Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 404, Glendo, Wyoming 82213.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
