RICHARD MORRIS "DICK" ENGLISH

Funeral services for Richard M. “Dick” English, 93, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Casey Schroeder officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Wheatland Cemetery following the services.

Dick English passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at the Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland. 

He was born on Saturday, August 11, 1928 in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming to Alfred and Donna (Ishmiel) English.  As a young man he enjoyed riding broncs at rodeos and breaking horses.  While attending a dance after competing in a rodeo, he met his future wife, Valeta “Val” Carey.  They were married on August 14, 1947.  They settled in Wheatland, where they raised their four children.   Dick drove for Lock Trucking and delivered propane for CO-OP for many years making friends along the way.  Dick and Val later owned and operated English Oil Company.  Camping, traveling, hunting for arrowheads, and time spent at their cabin were some of their favorite things to do.  He loved Cheyenne Frontier Days where his favorite event was the Wild Horse Race.

After 56 wonderful years of marriage, Val passed away on January 7, 2003.   Dick was blessed to meet Bonnie Swingle, the second love of his life.  Dick and Bonnie were married on October 4, 2003.  They kept active by line dancing, playing cards with friends, attending exercise classes, volunteering, delivering meals on wheels, and church activities.  As life slowed down, he enjoyed watching rodeos on TV, the Broncos, the Rockies, Family Feud, and playing a good game of solitaire on the computer.  He was an avid reader and loved a good western.

Dick will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Bonnie of Wheatland, brother, Don (Sandy) English of Cheyenne, Wyoming; children, Susan (David) Artery of Wheatland, Jean (Kevin) Cress of Las Vegas, Nevada, Patti (Shawn) Rupert of Wheatland, and Jim (Connie) English of  Torrington, Wyoming; grandchildren, Brian (Kim) Artery of Wheatland, Damon (Heather) Artery of Cheyenne, Colby (Kerry) Rupert of  Las Vegas,  Autumn (Dave) Estes of Las Vegas, Trisha (Jared) Call of Wheatland, Matt (Kayla) Rupert of Wheatland, Cora (Jason) Griffin of Wheatland, Tony English of Casper, Wyoming, and Trace English of Laramie, Wyoming; and 14 great grandchildren.  

Dick loved his bonus children and their families, Kyle Swingle, Dan Swingle, Rae Tafoya, Diana Tanner, and Lorraine Jensen.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Val; his parents, Donna Louise and Alfred John English; three brothers, Lawrence “Bud”, Alfred Glenn “Mick”, Thomas Winther “Tom”; and sister, Ethyl Mayme Keslar. 

Memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church, 95 Nineteenth Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.
