Richard Stepanick, 84, passed away peacefully at his home near Douglas, Wyoming surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 1st. 2025.
He was born on Wednesday, April 17th 1940 in Minatare Nebraska the son of Frank and Dorthy E. (Harrison) Stepanick. When Richard was a small child, the family moved to Douglas, Wyoming where they owned and operated a farm and dairy on the west side of the North Platte River. During his school years he enjoyed track and football as well as working on and cruising his 1949 Ford hot rod.
He married Edith Jean Marler on October 8th 1961. To this union was born two children, son Adam and daughter Penny. They were married for sixty-three years.
Richard went to work when he was quite young for Gene L. Payne Company putting farm machinery together and later as a mechanic. He spent a lot of that time going out to different ranches fixing equipment in the field. He became well known for his excellent mechanical skills. In 1961, he went to work for Knisely Moore building the interstate highways. Richard then worked for Bear Creek Uranium until they closed. We went to work for North Antelope Mine and retired from there in 2008. He really enjoyed operating heavy equipment and missed it a great deal. His riding lawn mower just didn’t do it for him.
Richard’s off time was filled with moto cross racing, a family affair. Richard was the mechanic, son Adam the rider, daughter Penny was a volunteer flagger and wife Edith the photographer. He also enjoyed hiking and exploring in the mountains with his son. A couple highlights for him was going on his son Adam’s big horn sheep hunt and buffalo hunt in western Wyoming.
Richard is survived by his wife Edith; son Adam (Julie) Stepanick; sister Patricia Whiting; brothers-in-law Harold Watson and Richard Marler; sister-in-law Susan Kosine; grandsons Tony (Rikki) Ramsey, Josh Stath, Dusty (Amanda) Stath, Ryan (Jen) Barnes; five great grandsons and numerous nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Dorthy Stepanick; in-laws Paul and Margaret Marler; daughter Penny Barnes; sisters Shirley Watson and Gloria Payne; and brothers-in-law Henry Kosine and Jerry Payne.
By his wishes, there will not be a funeral. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
