A funeral service for Robert “Bob” E. Holloway, 78, will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 15, 2026 at the Lake Guernsey VFW in Guernsey, Wyoming with a luncheon to follow.
Bob Holloway was born on Tuesday, October 28, 1947 to Walter G. and Aspasia (Kandis) Holloway in Alexandria, Virginia.
Bob passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Platte County Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming.
Bob was raised in McLean, Virginia, where he volunteered as a firefighter while still in high school and participated in one of the first EMT programs in the 1960s.
In March 1966, Bob joined the United States Air Force, serving as a Fire Protection Specialist, ACFT Loadmaster, and Fire Protection Supervisor. He proudly served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in October 1975 while stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho.
Following his military service, Bob attended Casper College to complete a truck driving course. It was there that he met Sharon Chapman on a blind date. The couple married on July 10, 1976, in Worland, Wyoming. They briefly lived in McLean, Virginia, before returning to Wyoming. Together they raised two children, Dawn (Holloway) McCracken of Hyrum, Utah, and Keith Holloway of Spring Hill, Florida.
While living in Worland, Bob worked as a mechanic for Dowell. Later, he operated a lawn care business and worked seasonally for Holly Sugar. In May 1977, he joined the Wyoming Army National Guard.
In 1987, Bob and his family moved to Guernsey, where he became the first Fire Chief at Camp Guernsey. After his discharge from the Guard in 1993, he briefly operated a lawn sprinkler business before beginning a career in long-haul trucking. He retired in 2007.
Bob dedicated much of his life to serving others. He volunteered with the Worland Volunteer Fire Department and later with the Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department, where he also served as an EMT. He was a longtime member of the Lake Guernsey VFW Post #4471 and served several years as Quartermaster.
Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand and never met a stranger. One winter, after a severe storm knocked out a transformer in Guernsey, Bob used his semi-truck to retrieve a replacement transformer so power could be restored to the community.
He will be remembered for his service, generosity, and dedication to family, friends, and community.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon of 50 years; children, Dawn and Keith; three grandchildren, Isaac, Kiley and Connor McCracken of Utah; three nephews; and one niece.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.
Donations can be made to the Guernsey Volunteer Fire Department or Lake Guernsey VFW Post #4471.
The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
