RONALD "RON" PLUMB Obituary

On Thursday, January 1, 2026, Ron Plumb, 91, passed away, at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyoming leaving behind a legacy of love and faith as he joined his wife and the Lord.

Ronald Eugene Plumb was born on Wednesday, September 19, 1934, in Longmont, Colorado. He was the son of Ira Ellsworth and Martha (Lebsock) Plumb. Ron spent his formative years in Worland, Wyoming, where he graduated from high school. On September 14, 1957, Ron married the love of his life, Sondra Kay Gilliland. Together, they built a home in Douglas in 1962, and their union was blessed with three sons: Brian (Jean) Plumb, Brent (Lorri) Plumb, and Gary (Lynn) Plumb.  He had 11grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Ron served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict, completing a two-year tour in Germany. After his active duty, he continued to serve in the Army Reserves until 1961.

Ron attended Northwest Community College, earning his Associate's Degree in 1958. He pursued further education at the University of Wyoming, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1960. His commitment to education continued, and in August 1973, Ron earned his Masters of Education from the University of Wyoming.

Ron began his career as a teacher and coach in Saratoga, Wyoming, from 1960 to 1962. He then moved to Douglas, where he taught and coached from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. After retiring, Ron continued to contribute as an assistant golf coach for several years. In addition to his teaching and coaching roles, he served as the Athletic Director from 1974 to 1995.

Among the proudest moments of Ron's coaching career were his recognition by the Wyoming Coaches Association with the 30-Year Coaching Award and his induction into the Coaches Hall of Fame with the Distinguished Service Award. Throughout his life, Ron dedicated his time to serving on numerous Wyoming High School Boards and Community Service Boards.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Ira, on November 25, 1990; mother, Martha, on February 11, 1983; wife, Sondra, on July 2, 2012; brother, Donald Ellsworth Plumb Sr. on March 9,2004; sister, Geraldine Rose “Gerri” Maples Gaddis, on November 13, 1999; and sisters-in-law, Sadella Golen on October 28, 2012 and Barbara Lockwood on October 2, 2022.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 405 North Sixth Street, Douglas with Pastor Todd Weber officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery with military honors accorded by Samuel American Legion Post #8 and Wyoming Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors.  A reception will follow at the Masonic Temple, 138 North Fourth Street, Douglas.
