Robert Martinez of Guernsey, Wyoming, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the age of 79 in Casper, Wyoming at Banner Wyoming Medical Center. Robert grew up in Sunrise, Wyoming and graduated in the last class of Sunrise High School in 1963. He joined the United States Army in 1965. He was stationed in Korea, then in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he met Rose Ponze. They were married in February of 1968. They were blessed with Paul later in, 1968, Anita in 1969 and Christopher “Keeko” in 1971. They moved from Missouri to Wyoming in 1971. He came to Guernsey, Wyoming to be Chief of Police. Afterward, he worked at the Sunrise Mine until it closed, then he worked many other jobs. He was mostly known for his time at Burrito Brothers with his brother, George.
Growing up he loved hunting, fishing, basketball, and baseball. While his children were growing up, he coached many baseball and softball teams. He shared his love of the outdoors and sports with his children as well as many others. As he aged, he enjoyed morning coffee at Twisters, playing cribbage with his friends, and playing games at Kelley’s Bar. After being divorced, he had a long and great relationship with Marcie Smith until her death. He dearly loved his children, Marcie’s children, their grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother, Anthony of Guernsey; sister, Carmen (Ric) of Austin, Texas; daughter, Anita of Guernsey; son, Christopher of Alliance, Nebraska; stepchildren, Jason, Shiloh, and Frankie; granddaughters, Madison of Guernsey and Aaliyah of Laramie; great grandchildren, Zayden, Daxten, and Amiya; many nieces and nephews; and much extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul V.; mother, Celia; brothers, Rudy, George, and Pedro; sisters, JoAnne and Mary Margret; and son, Paul S.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Prairie Rest Cemetery near Guernsey.
