SALLY DIANE (MERRICK) BAUER

Funeral services for Sally Diane Bauer, 71, will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at United Church of Christ in Wheatland, Wyoming with Pastor Casey Schroeder officiating.

Sally passed away peacefully in her sleep at Platte County Legacy Home in Wheatland, Wyoming on Saturday morning, May 28, 2022.

Sally was born in Torrington, Wyoming to Dwight and Doris Merrick. The fifth child in the family, Sally was ever positive, kind, and sweet. She loved her dog, Chi Chi and her horse, Ginger.

The family eventually relocated to Pine Bluffs, Wyoming and ran the local motel. Sally made many close friends in school there. Her group of friends even formed what Sally jokingly referred to as a “motorcycle gang”. Riding the bluffs and hanging out with her friends was a favorite story she liked to tell. Sally also met her first husband while in school in Pine Bluffs. While that marriage didn’t last, she was blessed with her only daughter, Andrea.

As life took its twists and turns; moving to Texas, divorce, moving near family in Colorado, being a single mom, and a final move to Wheatland. She found her first and only job at CH Brown Company that would eventually lead her to meet a “handsome farmer” Ken Bauer. She really liked his “swagger'' and they went on their first date on Christmas Eve of 1980. Together, the three of them formed a family and did all the things a Wheatland family does: farming, 4-H, family events, etc. all with a lot of love and a lot of laughter.

Sally proved over and over again what a positive loving person she was throughout her life; surviving and recovering from being run over by a semi-truck, taking on the daunting task of providing dialysis and medical care for her husband, Ken, and being present, always, for her daughter. She will be remembered for her creative abilities with crafting and sewing, her love for her family, for being one of the best aunts to her nieces and nephews, and for being one of the proudest grandmas you’ve ever met.

Sally is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Dana) Willadsen; two grandchildren, Ashley Willadsen and Lindsey Willadsen; brother, Tom Merrick and sister, Barbara Merrick; and many, many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; brother, Jerry Merrick and sister, Marlene Merrick.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel of Wheatland are in charge of the arrangements.
