SARAH MILLER Obituary

Sarah Jane Miller, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 of natural causes at her home in Douglas, Wyoming surrounded by her family.

She was born Wednesday, August 8, 1934 in Vernon Center, Minnesota the daughter of Park Samuel and Vilma May (Francis) Malvin.  Sarah grew up in Minnesota on the family farm, the youngest of six children.  In 1954, she ventured west to Wyoming to teach country school on what is now known as the Pathfinder Ranch, south of Casper, Wyoming.  She taught the next school year on the Ogallala Ranch, north of Douglas.  Sarah loved Wyoming and met and married Max Richard Miller in 1956.  They made Douglas their home raising six children, Cheryl (Larry) Gerard, Paul (Merilee) Miller, Jane (Jerry) Bryson, Park (Lorrie) Miller, Pam (Cary) Tines, and Neil (Melaine) Miller.

Sarah was an avid crafter, determined and successful in everything she attempted.  She could sew, paint, cook, decorate, woodwork, do needlework, loved her flower gardens, and she gathered many antique collections throughout the years.  She had an eye for quality and a flair for adding her artistic touch to each project she undertook.  For over 40 years, she bowled on many leagues in Douglas and participated in many state and national bowling tournaments.

Sarah was the dealer for the Casper Star Tribune in Douglas and her family has many paper route stories and memories of those ten years.  She owned and operated The Country Touch Antique Store on Fourth Street, Miller Rentals, a painting and wall papering business, and was also co-partner in Max’s Miller Construction Company.  She served as a Converse County election judge for many years.

Sarah was strong willed, assertive and steadfast in her beliefs.  She was a perfectionist, our rock, our defender.  She listened and was our problem solver.  She believed in doing things the right way and she passed these traits on to her children and grandchildren.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and one son-in-law.

She is survived by her husband, Max, of 65 years; her six children; twenty-two grandchildren ;thirty-five great grandchildren; her five siblings, Marion Hageman, Maureen Hubbard, Bill Malvin, Joanne Butson, and Donna Soller; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A tribute to her life will be held at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 405 North Sixth Street, Douglas, Wyoming at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 26, 2021.  Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.  A reception to follow will be held at Cooper’s Arena, 126 North Third Street in Douglas.
