Timothy Donald “Tim” Hoffman, 80, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Platte County Hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming, surrounded by his loving family.
Tim was born on June 25, 1945, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Donald Eugene and Leta (Norris) Hoffman. He was raised and educated in Buffalo, Wyoming, graduating from Buffalo High School in 1963.
Following high school, Tim moved to Rawlins, where he worked various jobs before beginning a long and dedicated career in law enforcement. In 1970, he relocated to Wheatland and joined the Platte County Sheriff’s Office as Undersheriff. Over the course of 29 years, Tim served his community with distinction as Chief of Police, Sheriff, and Deputy County Coroner.
After retiring from law enforcement, Tim remained active by opening a boot shop, building fences, construction, and taking on various projects to stay busy.
Tim had a passion for the outdoors and craftsmanship. He enjoyed hunting, leatherwork, and creating handmade items such as belts, keychains, and pencil holders, as well as working with wood.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie Hoffman of Wheatland; children, Mike (Shawn) Hoffman of Wheatland, Mark (Donna) Hoffman of Saint Charles, Iowa, and Jen (Eli) Stone of Wheatland; sister, Claudia Hoffman of California; grandchildren, Megan, Alex, Heather, Bode, Andrea, Taylor, Shawn, Sherae, Hallie, Keith, Lexi, and Courtnee; and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald E. Hoffman on December 30, 1993; mother, Leta Hoffman on May 13, 2001; daughter, Dawn Day on November 22, 2002; sister, Donna Hoffman; grandson, Dallas Hoffman on May 29, 2010; and great granddaughter, Willow Ann Derra.
