WALTER WEISS Obituary

Walter Edwin Weiss, 88, passed away 22 December 2022 at his residence.  He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed and remembered.

Walt was born in Lincoln Park, Michigan on 7 June 1934.  After graduating high school, he attended Michigan College of Mining and Technology (Michigan Tech), one of the leading colleges in the fields of mining and engineering concepts.

Receiving a mechanical engineering degree and graduating with a brilliant talent and achievement in mechanical engineering applications, Walt was recruited to work at the highly classified Redstone Missile project, headed by famed German V-2 rocket scientist Werhner von Braun, at Huntsville, Alabama.  It was there that Walt provided a great patriotic service to his country, working alongside some of the country's brightest engineers and experienced German rocket scientists to develop advanced rocket technology absolutely critical to building United States superiority in the emerging "space race."

As a recognized and sought-after gifted engineer, he was lured by Tabor Mining Company (MEMCO) where he developed innovative automatic tunneling machines employed throughout the world in large-scale mountain mining operations.  While traveling to Taiwan during a mining operation business trip, Walt met his wife of 45 years, Eilien.

After traveling throughout the world in support of mining operations, Walt decided he was ready for some professional and personal "relaxation," and ultimately settled in Glenrock where he lived his passion for hunting and fishing throughout the state of Wyoming, enjoying the sportsman's life to the fullest.  During this time, Walt was an operations supervisor for a local mine and ultimately ended his working career as mechanic for Dave Johnston Power Plant.

Walt once said of his life, “We worked hard, and we played hard.” Walt loved God, family, Wyoming, hunting, fishing,  horses and held a vast interest in cars and trucks, and anything mechanical.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a wife, several siblings and a son.

Survivors include his loving wife, Eilien; former spouse Janet; children Norma (Paul), Rozanne (Brian), Vicki Miranda; grandchildren Sara, Jana, John, Amanda, Nathan, Christina, Shay, Emma and Isabelle; great-grandchildren Annabelle and others; sister Gloria (Bob) Wenger; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.

The family will hold a personal memorial service and is deeply thankful and moved by the many family and friends who have provided comfort and support at this time of sorrow with kind words, condolences, thoughts and prayers.  Walt provided memories of a lifetime to the people he touched.  May a "flight of Angels" sing his soul to peaceful rest with Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
