William Jay Graves, age 56, a resident of Cornelius, Oregon, died on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 at St. Vicent Hospital in Portland, Oregon. Bill “BJ’ was son of the late Virginia Graves of Douglas, Wyoming and Jay Hardin of Carlton, Oregon. Bill was born and raised in Douglas, Wyoming on Monday, February 5, 1968, but spent most of his adult life in California and Oregon.
He was an avid sports fan and could tell you any statistics about any team you needed to know. He was especially a die-hard Denver Bronco and New York Yankee fan. Bill was full of fun and laughter. Everywhere he went you knew when he was in the room – a huge presence that brought friendship to all. As a child Bill spent a lot of time with his maternal grandparents and especially loved to go camping and fishing with them.
Bill battled diabetes for many years and was on dialysis three times a week for at least the last five of those years. There were times that he got down, but it was not long before he was cracking jokes again and making everyone around him feel better. His friends remember him fondly when he was a bouncer, a DJ, and a mean Karaoke singer. He worked for many years as an accounts manager for Aaron’s Sales and Lease.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mark and Georgia Graves, his mother Virginia, his stepmom Anna, and several uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his dad, Jay; sisters, Teri Hardin Rogers (Chris) of Lafayette, Oregon and Sue Smith (Leo) of Carlton, Oregon, along with their families; his children Nichole, Rion, and Dusti; four granddaughters; three grandsons; cousins; and his two aunts, Linda Fabian and Georgia Moore.
Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at the columbarium in Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas, Wyoming Wednesday, May 29th, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.
The Gorman Funeral Homes-Converse Chapel of Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
